Agglutinate

Product Description

The rock is very colorful, having black glassy, reddish brown and some pale green bombs all squished together. These samples come from northern California near Glass Mountain. By definition, an agglutinate is a clumping or massing of any kind of material. In geology the term specifically applies to extrusive igneous rock that is formed when hot, gooey volcanic bombs form masses as they land on the ground and stick together. Kind of like a cinnamon pull apart. This agglutinate was formed about 800 years ago in Northern California when a vent on Glass Mountain erupted.
